    why 9 and 10 foot ceilings now

    9 and 10 foot ceilings are nothing new, our old house had 10 foot ceilings in it and it was built in the 1880's. They did disappear years ago I think for heating purpose's. better insulation is bringing them back, Its easier to keep a high ceiling cool in the summer than it is to heat one in the winter now with advances in insulation.
    Modern building standards imposed by architecture, technology, codes and preferences as well as construction costs.

    High ceilings fell with 19th and early 20th century architectural design and before oil and certainly electricity. At one time all homes were heated by either coal or wood stoves. High ceilings like stairwells allowed heat to rise and warm upstair bedrooms.
