The town of pickwick at possum kingdom was started in 1904. The name of the town was picked and named for the book the Pickwick Papers written by Charles Dickens. The people in the town moved when the lake was filled in 1938. The location of the old town of Pickwick is straight out from Willow Beech. When the water is low you can see some of the old foundations and well about 200 yds out from where you can park. Supposedly the old metal bridge that went across the river is still there.
