I believe the cost of gas and diesel is a factor, as so much revolves around it. It might not have been the cause, but it sure played a part.

I also believe that part of a solution to our economy's problems could be found in re-building our infra-structure that is falling apart across the country. We need to, we all rely on it, and it creates jobs.
Greedy bankers had a huge impact on the economy. The rich keep gettng richer, the poor - poorer!
Deregulation of Wallstreet, greedy bankers (housing bubble),runaway government spending.
Clinton signed NAFTA and that was the beginning of our problems. Sending jobs out of the country. Gas prices caused everything to soar instead of using our fuel resources. Bankers, and the evil politicians that the morons in this country keep voting into office. We the people are ultimately responsible for not looking out for our own asses, and not taking enough of an interest in what our representatives were doing.

I agree with you 100% in that NAFTA sold out the American people. Now what industry we do have left in the country is competeting against what we formerly had. The other sad part of that whole thing is, no one has done anything to correct it...and the damage it has done to this country might have already gone past a point of being able to fix.

Your absolutely right. Nobody is still not addressing the issue.
    Bad leaders. And, greedy bankers.
i think if the u.s. followed aust, lead and gave the general public a stimulus package[money] instead of giving it the corporations which they squandered on themselves it may have helped the u.s. economy to get back on it's feet.

I think Shootah, is right the cost of fuel makes everything go up.
We're also involved in to many wars, zero wars would be a much better number.
GAS AND OIL PRICES ARE HIGH BECAUSE THE DOLLAR IS NEARLY WORTHLESS. WE CAN TURN THIS ECONOMY AROUND BY BALANCING THE BUDGET,AND BUYING AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS,NOT JUST CARS EVERYTHING

I try to buy american, but it's not possible now.
