    Why is it that man went to the moon before we learned to put wheels on luggage ????

      The modern air terminal had not yet been designed. Today's 'runways' not only involve aircraft on the tarmac/runway; runway's exist with passengers racing from one long terminal to the next. Luggage manufacturer's finally recognized an opportunity equating to dollars.
