      did a little research, proves to be a myth that a master design was proposed by pres. rosevelt that the high way system could be used for emergency war time landing strip! i for one would'nt rule it out altogether though

        Interstate 40 spans across the United States and it is true that several miles of this interstate has long straights for the purpose of war time runways in the event that out airports were destroyed. This basically gives us air strips all over the U.S. This interstate was a pet project of Rosevelt.
