      Lots of automatic ice cube makers have a "Trip Bar" that extends over the ice bucket from the maker. This bar rises when the bucket reaches its full capacity. These bars can also be left in the UP position and continue to produce ice.

        Usually because there are electronic sensors that show if the tray is in or not
