How is the best way to prune a fitzer?

Mine is overgrown. If I prune it to size I will have only brown limbs and no green.

Wait until fall. Then cut back only about 33% of the bush, or just the new growth if not that overgrown. Do this every fall. The reason there are brown limbs is because the bush has over grown its roots capability to feed it. It will take several years to bring it back to full "green".
