my husband was a funeral director. of course, i'd pick cremation for myself or a loved one. you get the proper ashes back. it might be best to go to a mortuary that is established and has a good name.
cremation is soooo much better than the alternative. there is no sense in spending a lot of money. (at least that's my opinion)

did you mean for a pet or for a person?
the crematory puts a metal tag on the wrist of the deceased. that stays with the body during the cremation process. with human remains there are never two cremations done at the same time. after the cremation, the metal tag is put right on the top so nobody has to sift through. If a family member requests it, the crematory should allow the family member to witness any part of the cremation.
