amazon.com is not the amazon marketplace

I place an order on amazon.com to be send to a detention center. If the amazon.com is a marketplace the Detention center will return the books. How do I know the amazon.com where I place the order is not the amazon marketplace?

I believe they are one in the same. I see no difference when I google amazon.com and amazon marketplace. You may need to find someone else to buy from.
