    my step daughter at age 16 says she is a young adult

      maybe its not an age ,but rather a level of maturity.circumstances and reasonable thinking will determen that.if she wants to proclaim herself as a young adult,she either has to go to school or work or both. if she lives under your roof than its your rules

        Depends on the country.

        UK 18, though youngsters can marry at 16 with parental consent, & I believe without it in Scotland... not sure if that is still the case.

        It sounds as if your stepdaughter is pushing the boundaries. What does her father think? He can't leave her to you entirely, just because she's a girl. Talk to him and present a united front on what she may or may not do.
