No idea where you have to press anything, but the answer to why you are given a choice is simple.
UK English is still influenced by French... hence the use of "u" in words such as humour, where you would spell it humor.
US English tends to be phonetic, as in center and theater, which we spell centre and theatre.
Neither is right or wrong, just different. If you check the languages available on your computer you will see UK English offered as an alternative. I have US English as an alternative on mine.
