their respective religions. the two countries were separated from the whole of India when India became independent from Britain. Pakistanis living in parts of India moved to their new country and many Indians moved to their new India. Otherwise, there would have been a civil war with two different religious factors fighting each other. Physically, the land of what is now called Pakistan was part of India. It was divided to accommodate the two peoples.
