I'm guessing you're talking about your network connection icon at the bottom of the screen. And I'm guessing you're running XP.
Click on Start and go to Control Panel
Click on Network connections and right click on your network adapter
Select properties
At the bottom of the screen are 2 boxes - one is Show icon when connected, check it
Click on OK
You should have your computers back.
