How do you prevent premature failure (cracking, galling, or leakage)?

Most carbide valve seat failures are not due to the material itself, but to installation, mating component condition, or operating conditions. Follow these guidelines:

    Prevent Cracking

    • Never press-fit carbide into a steel body without calculating hoop stress. Use slip-fit + mechanical retainer (threaded ring, snap ring, or staking).

    • Chamfer or radius all sharp edges — minimum 0.010" x 45° on seat ID and OD.

    • Ensure housing bore is round and burr-free — out-of-round >0.001" creates stress concentrations.

    • Avoid point loading during assembly — press evenly using a fixture that contacts the entire seat face.
