The ozone layer is a deep layer in the stratosphere, which is circling the earth and has large amounts of ozone in it. Ozone is a special form of oxygen that has 3 atoms in it, unlike the oxygen we use when we breath, which has only 2 atoms. The ozone layer is very important to our planet because it shields us from dangerous amounts of radiation from the sun. The ozone became widely known when people discovered that some chemicals used in industries throughout the world cause serious damage to the ozone layer. since then these chemical material are no longer in use in most countries of the world.
