During the last Geneva International Motor link Show, the Swiss watchmaker announced new partnerships with Aston Martin and Gulf Oil International, launching the TAG Heuer Carrera and TAG Heuer Formula 1 Aston Martin Special Editions, as well at the Monaco Gulf. The domed sapphire crystal and the three-dimensional dial elements create a sense of depth, making the watch a conversation starter and a visual delight for the wearer. One of my favorite models in the current Royal Oak collection is the Royal Oak Extra-Thin "Jumbo" ref.In terms of overall form, the watch is not entirely surprising from past iterations – maintaining the balance wheel and arched bridge beneath the pronounced domed crystal. The black lacquer dials against the blued hands do give this watch a particular industrial vibe that prior iterations did not possess. In fact, the Final Edition, released about four years ago, had more of a luxe, haute-horology feeling.
However, I'm only one person with one vote, and you need to choose in this challenging battle.A hand-finished movement you can see can really be bettered only by a beautifully hand-finished movement that you can't see. In keeping with the theme link of generally wanting things as discreet as possible in his collection, the logical next step from the Lange was this vintage Calatrava. The fact that the movement is one of the 20th century's horological works of art from arguably its most blue-chip maker, and that for the most part it does its thing unseen, is exactly what makes it irresistible. In terms of its aesthetic or utility, this take on the Chronomaster Sport aligns neatly with its family members as far as appearances go, mostly staying in step with the design we're already familiar with one of the brand's staple sports chronographs. That being said, this rendition's subtlety allows for its titanium construction, a material that Zenith doesn't often experiment with, to shine.Just a quick note to revisit the dials. I never cease to be impressed with what Voutilainen and his team do with their hand guilloched dials. Thanks to his own company, Comblemine, you can see more and more craftsmanship like this on the market than you would ever have had 20 years ago, but there's something indescribable that sets his own watches apart.
With a standard deviation of anywhere between -20 to +40 seconds per day, it's not a particularly accurate movement unless you luck out with a good example. I've owned watches with this movement that ran within COSC specs but also others that kept time on the extremes of link the advertised range.I generally think of Robert-Jan’s hate/hate affair with Seiko bracelets when I’m looking at any bracelet, but I do think he’d give this bracelet a passing score.Currently, the car is on display at the Coventry Transport Museum alongside its forebear, the Thrust SSC.
