There's more to Ming's Project 21 than the case. The Piguet 21 caliber was extensively reworked by the surface-treatment firm TitAl SA and Mathis Horlogerie. Mathis re-envisioned the movement and added a titanium skeletonized bridge, chatons, anglage, and sablage (sandblasting). TitAl provided surface treatment to the movements in dial-matching colors.I dislike resale discussions, but the Rolex link will almost certainly retain more value and be easier to move on should the wearer have a change of heart.The MB Savanna follows closely in the format established by the MB1 – which can only be bought by those who have survived the use of a Martin-Baker ejection seat (hence the MB name), the aforementioned civilian spec (and very customizable) MBII, and the GMT-equipped MBIII. For the MB Savanna, this monochromatic colorway has been applied to the MBII, but where the standard models use hardened steel for the upper case element and the caseback, the MB Savanna uses grade 5 titanium.The brushed wood-texture dial adds to the feeling that this ins't a vintage watch but a watch that appreciates a vintage era. My only qualm is that by being large in diameter, I would have hoped it would be a bit thinner. It's very thick at 15mm, though maybe it wears better on the wrist. Either way, it's a fun and relatively affordable release from our friends at Fratello.
