When you think of Yema watches, you probably think of vintage-inspired divers, chronographs, and GMTs. But put all your preconceived notions aside for a moment because this new watch is something else. In collaboration with artist and watchmaker Alain Silberstein, the French brand introduces the Marine. It's a limited edition of 500 pieces that doesn't look like anything Yema has done before. With this variation, the manufacture from Le Locle whisks us off to a realm where wintry weather metamorphoses scenescapes and influences timepiece esthetics. The clasp on the bracelet provides six steps of micro-adjustment, which Seiko says link is equivalent to around 15mm of "true" adjustment on the wrist.Yellow also highlights the column wheel of the automatic Heuer 02 caliber (80 hours of power reserve) assembled using 168 components.
What's so special about it? Whilst the initial model mixed color and texture in an up-to-the-minute link scenography, this watch is infused with the stylistic codes of the 80s.I think that's unfair because it relegates any amorphously shaped watch to the homage category.I knew, for example, that Jean-Antoine Lepine was the guy who made watches thinner by basically making them one level, like a ranch house with an open floor plan as opposed to a townhouse with stairs and nooks and crannies. I knew that among the trailblazers in ultra thin watches were Jaeger-LeCoultre (thanks to the Caliber 920), and Vacheron Constantin (with the caliber 1003).
The contrast goes further than just coolness versus warmth. I feel there is a contrast in overall vibes here. The case and bracelet look tool-like and spartan, while the Bronze Gold, green, and accent colors look rich and ornate. Consequently, the entire thing feels like a juxtaposition of different purposes. This applies particularly to the bracelet model. However, the gold-tone indices and handsets of all three models are more elements linking these Boutique Editions. link Not only is it a nice way to connect them, but the chosen combination of colors looks super stylish. If you think you’ve seen those evocative stripes before, imagine them on a movement bridge. However, I also very much admire the courage to try something different this time.
