Everything old is new again, link as the saying goes, and Alpina offers this old design in an updated package. However, Journe quickly became frustrated with the dynamics of independent watchmakers supporting global brands, and began to plot the launch of his eponymous label. When asked why he decided to launch is own brand, he replied, "Because I was fed up of giving pearls to swine."When that specific watch came to auction at Christie's Geneva in November 2006, it sold for a hard-to-believe total of CHF 2,372,000, a sum that made it – at the time of the sale – the seventh-most-expensive timepiece ever sold at auction. If Patek ever needed a proof of concept that a sinistral split-seconds chronograph could find an audience of collectors, it's right there.
Is it really the best choice when using materials like rubber or when a watch has contemporary and/or link high-tech looks?Sure, you can make a chronograph with two separate trains, one of which has a frequency of 360,000 vph but if it has a power reserve for the chronograph of less than an hour, has such a high frequency that human reaction time can't actually make use of it, costs three (or four, or five) times as much as a conventional chronograph, and does little or nothing to improve the practical measurement of elapsed time and the general human condition, what's the point?Brand: Raymond Weil Model: Raymond Weil x Basquiat Freelancer Special EditionReference Number: 7780-TIC-JMB01Diameter: 43.5mmThickness: 13.7mmCase Material: TitaniumDial Color: BlackLume: Super-LumiNovaWater Resistance: 100 metersStrap/Bracelet: Black calf leather with titanium clasp
My only concern is with the end links and how they meet up with the case. I actually think it looks too plain and slab-like; it dumbs down the overall look a bit too much link and overhangs the case. I’m not sure if Crepas has finalized the design yet, but it’s the only semi-clumsy detail on the watch. You might want to know that each ring is made out of a titanium cornice, hollowed, and polished. If you don't know the Micro Artist Studio, you probably know their work, some of which is shown on the tray below. This is probably one of the most valuable trays of current-production Seikos ever assembled, with everything from a platinum 8-day SBGD201 to the Credor Eichi II and even the incredibly complicated Credor Sonnerie.
