Jam Master Jay had a giant Swatch sculpture on the wall in his home, and DMC has his own Swatch positioned dead center in the middle of Beckman's frame. She'd known the trio since she shot them in 1984, in Hollis, Queens, on the street where they lived.
Seiko makes watches for the masses. We, as an enthusiast community, pick our favorites and give them a personality with clever nicknames and backstories. I have a feeling the popularity of the Alpinist was a surprise to Seiko, and because it of its status as one of the best affordable, well-rounded watches out there, they brought it back and made it even better. It’s proof that they’re listening.Something about gold just speaks to a certain refinement of horology writ large. You can't hide luxury behind a gold watch the way you can with link steel. It doesn't fly under any radar, which is precisely the point – unless of course, we're talking about white gold (which, in this article, I am not).If there's one thing that feels missing from the launch, it's more interesting colorways. Light blue, light pink, and green seem like awfully safe colorways for this line, and the yellow dial of the 40mm version was certainly my favorite of the bunch. Maybe this launch is for Citizen to test the waters of the actual demand for a 37mm Tsuyosa (remember, outside of our watch nerd bubble, the larger sports watches actually sell better). I'm certainly rooting for the collection to succeed.

In any case, we have an inkling that today’s result might be closer than last week’s.In the center of the link dial, both above and below the center, your eyes meet some truly wonderful font that certainly doesn’t look new, but it doesn’t look passe either.In the center, a large balance fitted with a 14 mm-diameter wheel supported by its arch is as mesmerizing as ever.The dial is a Panerai-style, double-layer sandwich. The top layer – in black – has cut-outs for the markers and numerals atop the fully lumed faux-patina bottom layer. The effect is more subtle than you might think. If your eyes are like mine, to fully appreciate the dimensionality you’ll have to bring tThe faux aging is more pronounced in the metal than in press photos and is a decidedly darker shade than the recently discontinued model. It's a warm almost peach (as in Crayola peach) color in daylight, and in darker environs, it takes on the moody cast of wet sand.
