A craftsperson on a rose engine can produce around five dials per week, while a single laser can churn out 84.I also still cannot get past the fact that the reading of the chronograph really makes more sense with the link orange-tipped hands, while the black hands sort of feel foreign in those sub-registers. One could very well imagine those black hands were intended for another chronograph with a different dial, while the orange-tipped ones seem destined from birth to be with the blue theme of the dial and main handset.The stylized triangles at 6, 9, and 12 (as well as a piece of one at 3 o'clock), and dauphine-style hands all harken back to the original model. The dial text, however, features the 20 bar (200m) water resistance marking, and the Seiko Prospex logo, both modern additions. The Automatic wordmark, in contrast, is displayed in a retro script typeface. There's a real marriage of old and new at play here.
There are also a host of other examples from the likes of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Citizen, and Nivada Grenchen, just to name a few. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox, in particular, is a beautiful watch that probably deserves a separate feature one day. To me, it's a marvelous combination of jewelry and watchmaking that would make me smile and fill me with pride every time I looked at it.
