Why do hospitals need dedicated pure water systems?

Hospitals cannot rely on municipal tap water alone. Medical applications require different grades of purified water to ensure patient safety and equipment functionality.

Tap water contains minerals, bacteria, endotoxins, and residual chlorine that can:

    • Interfere with laboratory testing (false positives/negatives).

    • Damage expensive equipment (dialyzers, sterilizers, endoscope reprocessors).

    • Cause infections if used in invasive procedures.

Dedicated systems produce water that meets pharmacopoeial standards (USP, EP) for applications ranging from hemodialysis to sterilization and laboratory analysis.
