The watch link reminds me of nothing link so much as the great stage magicians of the 19th century, and their elaborate illusions – particularly, Robert-Houdin's "The Marvellous Orange Tree," in which a spectator's handkerchief vanishes into an egg, then a lemon, then an orange, and then link finally reappears inside an orange which grows on the branches of an orange tree before the eyes of the audience. (The handkerchief is revealed by two mechanical butterflies).
