Another intriguing rabbit hole I found myself in while contemplating ownership of a vintage Cartier Tank Must was that of Universal Genève. The brand released many interestingly shaped watches in the 1960s and 1970s. Some link were nicknamed "Ellipse" simply because they resembled the case shape and dynamism of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse.Once back at port, I found myself mobbed by the international media and, honestly, everyone wanted to know – what watch was I wearing? Was it a Rolex, an Omega, a Seiko, a Dick Mille, or a racy Hublot? No, it was the rather pedestrian Vostok Amphibia – a watch that you mere mortals can buy for under $90 on Amazon. This brings me to another big feature that made headlines — the introduction of the Rolex caliber 7135.As a watch, I think the Full Steel Holstein Edition 2022 offers a unique wrist presence supported by a useful and well-executed travel complication. As a limited edition, I think it works beautifully by offering a niche experience to a niche audience, rather than being limited in an attempt to stir up some additional fervor in an otherwise run-of-the-mill watch.
Add it all up and you are easily working for an hour before you actually need your camera and link can start searching for the correct light set-up.This 3940, which features the days of the week and months in German, has a little bit of extra complexity for the English speaker. But in truth, the 3940 is an absolute classic of discretion, even with all of those displays. It's the kind of watch that one could build a collection around. And it's the reference that author Gary Shteyngart can't stop thinking about.Perhaps a clasp is an odd place to start, but as a butterfly clasp expert – in the sense that I wrote an article about them for Hodinkee Magazine Vol. 11 complaining that they are hard to fasten and adjust, tend also to be overly bulky, and just generally suck – I am forced to admit this one is very nice.
For Omega, watchmaker by trade, Tresor is a watch (of course), belonging to the De Ville collection, and a dazzling one at that (of course, too).To avoid his anger leading to terrible storms or long periods of drought, people started using the "IIII" notation link instead. The links have a mostly brushed finish, but the short edges in between the links are polished.
