We’ve never featured a Timex on our site, so why are we showing a watch from a brand link that’s known as an affordable (read: cheap) maker of utilitarian and reliable timepieces? Well, it isn’t entirely due to the much-ballyhooed recent re-release of a 1960's handwound Marlin, but itA HD AMOLED touchscreen (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode), which can be customized to match the colors of any country participating, takes on the role of dial and, via an app, transmits to the wrist everything that’s happening on the pitch: real-time tracking of matches between teams with countdown, half-time, extra time, final whistle, yellow cards, red cards, substitutions, penalties and, of course, goals.The quality of the bracelet and clasp is very decent, and they give the watch quite a technical look. However, they also significantly increase the weight of the watch. The Scorpion weighs 94 grams on the rubber strap, but it weighs 182 grams on the bracelet. To me, this is a good reason to choose the rubber straps, which also add a nice splash of color to your watch.Legibility and wearability are excellent, as you'd expect from a high-end technical watch. The only slight gotcha I continue to find in Blancpain's dive watches is that the bezel feels slightly stiff, although I haven't gone diving with any of them (alas) and so, can't speak to what it's like to try turn them with diver's gloves, underwater. Though, come to think of it, a partial solution to that might be to just buy a pair of diver's gloves and keep them in my desk drawer. Next time.
