It's link the type of nerdy talk we hope you enjoy!Red gold is, historically at least, considered the material of choice for repeaters as it's thought to produce the richest sound and while modern repeater technology has given us quite a few other options (including titanium, and also including watches with chimes attached directly to the crystal) there's still something very appealing, both visually and sonically, about a red-gold cased repeater.After its introduction in 1998, there's a reason IWC left the Portugieser Chronograph unchanged for the next two decades: don't mess with success. Sure, it's large – a 41mm diameter and slim bezel mean it wears big – but the minimal design and relatively thin case (12.5mm) make it completely balanced. Inside, the Valjoux 7750 ticks reliably.
