This model defies the typical Panerai DNA with a somewhat more traditional build while maintaining a bold presence on the wrist. With a more subdued blue color scheme compared to the Ulysse Nardin but an equally aquatic, summer feel, this would be another great option if you're looking to spice up your collection with something more off the beaten path.But you know what's not obvious? The reasoning behind a left-handed configuration, with the crown on the left-hand side of the case and the date aperture at 9 o'clock, instead of at 3 o'clock like any other GMT-Master II (or original GMT-Master).Just like the balance wheel, the gongs and hammers sit above the gorgeous fume dial, and there's a tiny hand-painted white gold panda holding some headphones up so it can DJ the turntables sitting on top of the gongs for the repeater. If you want to see the time (who does that with a watch anyway?), the hours and minutes are displayed directly on the dial via subtly elegant small leaf-shaped hands at 2 o'clock.
Nezumi's watches are hard to dislike. The designs are familiar yet fresh and use reliable Japanese movements. Also, all the pieces are assembled in Germany. Best of all, most models are available for around €500. For someone interested in a non-mainstream brand, these are solid options. "Zenith remains the first and only brand to hold the rights to mark its dials with the term," having first trademarked the term in 1904, the brand explains, in language that reads like its lawyers making a subtle jab at every other watch company's lawyers. Now, Zenith's got a completely modern take on the pilot watch, and one that's got me excited to see more.
