So we come back to the modern Seiko Turtle, which came out in 2016. This watch riffs off a historically important dive watch for Seiko, the 6309-7040/9. This watch stayed in production from 1976 to 1988. It had a large 45mm cushion case with a 22mm lug spacing, a screw-down crown, and a 150m depth rating. You can read an excellent story on the 6309 by my colleague Mike Stockton here. However, it wasn’t only the dial that helped make the Maen Greenwich 38 GMT such a design success, in my opinion. If you want a more detailed breakdown of the Explorer’s history and references, be sure to check out James’s review replica vacheron-constantin watches of the ref. 214270 Explorer here. He has a fantastic breakdown with photos and there’s no reason for me to rehash that all here. All your favorite HODINKEE editors will be on the ground in Geneva, bringing you news, interviews, and analysis on the new releases from some of fine watchmaking's most important and talked-about brands. Be on the lookout for special HODINKEE Radio episodes, as well. We hope you'll enjoy experiencing Watches And Wonders (And More) with us. We'll see you there!London Jewelers and the Udell family are very pleased to have established the Charles London Scholarship for the next generation of skilled watchmakers, said Mark Udell, CEO of London Jewelers. "Our goal is to inspire and encourage students to follow their passion of watchmaking to a career that supports the growing population of watch enthusiasts."If we ignore the price – and chances are, if you are reading this, then like me you do ignore the price and choose to appreciate Richard Mille like art in a museum – this is, in my opinion, a perfect product.
SB: Bezels are interesting because they're often some Replik-Uhr of the largest types on a watch. In the case of a diver's watch, that typography is critical to the function, potentially even to someone's life in certain situations. You certainly approach it differently from writing "Swiss Made" as small as you can at the bottom of the dial!Clearly visible is the large R on top and at the bottom, apparently used for stacking as we also see small contacts for electric guidance. We only had one in our office for a review but according to Spin-R you can stack up to 5 winders and use them with one single power adapter. The length of the watch might cause some problems on a smaller wrist, but on my 18cm wrist, it wasn't a problem. The Swatch watch, launcheWith the BioCeramic, launched as a capsule collection a couple of weeks ago, Swatch has made a watch of mixed ceramic (⅔) and bio-derived plastic (⅓). The plastic portion is made using the seeds of the castor plant. Available in simple black and white as well as blue, pink and grey, each will set you back $125. It’s proof that sustainability doeWith the BioCeramic, launched as a capsule collection a couple of weeks ago, Swatch has madeIWC began looking into high-quality alternatives for leather-based straps in 2018, with the goal of finding a material that was both vegan and green. The cellulose in the straps comes from managed forests or tree farms, and the stitching and lining from recycled materials.Started at the age of 15, this was Danièla Dufour's "school watch." Working in her father's workshop on the weekends while attending watchmaking school at ecole Technique de la Vallee de Joux, Danièla finished this watch back in 2021 at the young age of 20, just before her graduation. It's a beautiful rose gold case with the quintessential Dufour black dial, 3, 9, and 12 Arabic numerals and central guilloche with a sunk sub-seconds dial. But it's the movement where she put her mark. The case is stainless steel – as is the bracelet – with 200m of water resistance. Through the back sapphire crystal you can see the titanium oscillating weight, which has been made a light shade of blue through an anodic oxidation, powering the 9S86 high-beat GMT movement. Oh and yes, this is a flyer GMT, so the hour hand moves independently for setting.
We took a stroll in the paddock, checked out the teams and cars from Ford to Hyundai, Citroen and more then took a few shots of the new WRC Special Edition before we headed back toRolex changed the Replika montblanc ure soul of the Yacht-Master by turning it from a watch that loves to go for a casual boat trip and spend lots of time on the yacht club’s sun deck to a competitive ocean racer. The silver pie-pan dial with the lowered minute track and the Plexiglass crystal add great vintage notes to the watch's classic silhouette. In my opinion, a successful limited design is one that looks as if it should (and, crucially, could) be part of the regular collection. For its part, H. Moser released a Streamliner Tourbillon Rainbow in both steel and 5N rose gold, pulling out all the stops with a fume dial for the steel and a vantablack dial for the gold – oh, plus a flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock. This is a watch with a lot going on, but somehow it manages to look almost…restrained? It's a beautiful piece. Top notch. The LW.01M and LW.01A are powered by a ETA 2000.M1 modified by Schwarz-Etienne for MING, which were picked with an attempt to make a thin watch for the brand's fourth anniversary. That idea morphed into a challenge to make a light watch, then the lightest, but all that was delayed with a years-long years exhaustive amount of testing and metallurgic experimentation. This facility is co-operated with Nivarox-FAR. ETA takes care of the plate, bridge, and other component manufacturing, as well as the movement assembly, including regulation, while NivaSwatch Group-owned ETA produces the MoonSwatch and Scuba Fifty Fathoms. ETA has 17 factories across Switzerland. Their movement production facility, which was the first of the two factories I visited, is in Boncourt, about an hour drive from Biel, where the Swatch Group HQ is located.
