The caliber 1861 Speedmaster is link something of a modern relic. Released in 1996 it had an impressive production run of 26 years and is likely the Moonwatch you'll find on most enthusiasts' wrists today. The movement isn't COSC or METAS certified but the watch link is flight certified as in space link certified as in the Moon. Clooney is a noted Space Race nut and even appeared in a short film with Omega called Starmen alongside famed astronaut and Moon-venturing Speedy-wearer Buzz Aldrin.

But in 2014 I was guided by nothing more than what I was after. And I would eventually track down link and purchase a GMT-Master II Batman you can read my link story about that watch here. I write all of this preamble and personal meditation because I distinctly remember a time in Rolex fandom when it was basically Hulk vs. Batman when it came to hype models in link the broader collection sure the ceramic Daytona too but that was effectively unobtanium from the jump.
