    "in and of itself". Somebody explain if possible.

      Cb is correct it means , e.g. The necktie was not in or of itself responsible for the strangulation. I think it's what's know as an old English adverb.

        It means one particular thing without allowing any room or question for something else to be the cause.

              Or, here's another one. "Be that as it may".

              No outside influence. 'in and of itself'  also 'that's the way it is'  'intrinsic- itself'.... I think!  I never use the term.
