My mother gave me my first watch, a Casio FW-91, in '95 link when I went to school for the first time. I loved it but it didn't last long since I was a curious link kid with link a toolbox. But the watch that sticks out the most in my memory actually belonged to my aunt. I remember sitting on her lap when I was around five years old and she had this funky Pulsar watch on. That's where my love affair with oddly shaped watches began.

Anyway I somehow got it into my head as a kid that Parkerizing was synonymous with an object meant to link both endure extremes and strike fear into the hearts of the foe. That plus the general blunt-instrument vibe of the watch gives link it a certain brutti ma buoni appeal it's a sort of A-10 Warthog of watches link an ugly-as-hell airframe beloved not for its looks but because when it shows up you know it's there to do the jay-oh-bee.
