Have you ever learned something from.....

a member here on akaQA that you continue to use/put into practice on a regular basis? Maybe a new way to do something, a kitchen hint, how to repair something, etc.?

I have. One time jhharlan mentioned that you should place a wooden spoon over a pot when cooking something that might boil over (i.e. pasta) and it will prevent that problem. She said she didn't know WHY it works but it DOES.
She was right and I've done that every time since. For all the years I've been cooking, I had not previously known that little trick. Thanks jh.

Thanks for the mention, duck. I only just now remembered the trick. I sure could have used it many a time since. I don’t know if I’ve heard it here or elsewhere but I know that if you put a really thick onion slice into your socks at night, it will draw out the sickness. I have forgotten the trick and I sit here coughing my ears off. I’m out of onions, I’ll buy some today.....

You can try that one first! :)

I just bought onions to do so. I’ll let you know....

    Okay.

I bought the onion to try on my feet but forgot to apply last night. Dang. We’re all sick and coughing and the roads going out are all iced. Texans become immobile in such conditions. We need cough drops!!!

....haven't learned much but some of the meager attempts at humor are fun

Reinforced through the years from the many who have passed through akaQA is the fact we all walk our separate paths. Jumping to conclusions, presuming and assuming, and expecting everyone to have the same level of morality, integrity, intelligence, and faith you think you bring to the table is nuts. Some bring a lot more, and some, much less. Respecting differences doesn't require accepting "whatever", and that is OK.
