I don't spend thousands (or even hundreds) on Christmas gift giving but I think I recall that in the Bible, gifts were given? It wasn't a sin.

Yes absolutely. Giving (symbolic) gifts to my friends and loved ones, is part of Christmas and Christianity....to me.
