It depends on the situation as to how I greet someone I'm meeting for the first time. 

Shake hands, and say pleased to meet you.

....depends on my mood. Usually I look them in the eyes, smile and say hello/good morning.

Look em in the eye and give a firm hand shake..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

If they are American ,I just say Howdy Partner,,And ask them if they want to share my horse blanket,and strong coffee,,
