What is the closest you've come to a wild animal?

Other than my feral kittens? I've had a swim in the Texas gulf and then viewed the sharks the fishers pulled in....

It has to be the mountain lion on the bridge in Big Sur. We took a different route....like right back to the car!

Or the big buck elk on the path at Fern Canyon

I recently slew a dragon which had a screaming damsel cornered in the basement of the dungeon which I was staying at. Upon dragging it out into the bright sunlight, I discovered the damsel was my wife and the dragon appeared to be a garder snake. I didn't tell her the difference, and am still waiting to be knighted Sir Flip.

    Thee two guys here.

    Yippy!

I've been way too close to all kinds of creatures and I mean waaaay!   ;D

A massive brown mountain Bear strolled into my camp one evening along the Thomson River in the great Rocky Mountains... I was in the process of dousing out my fire with dish-water when he strolled down the mountain and out on the river path... I nearly fainted. So I stopped dousing the fire and laid flat on my belly while that Big Bruin stood up on his hindlegs trying to get a look at me but I was grabbing and pulling dry twigs and grasses and stoking the dang fire back up... blowing on it and praying simultaneously ... LOLOMG!  The Bear was no more than 20 feet away. He stood there and waved at me so I waved back from my crouch on the ground making plan 'B' [ I intended on jumping into the river ... lol ].

Thank heavens he just dropped to his feet and turned in slow motion and went his way down river ...

Around that same time I also had an old Mountain Lion show up and stick his face in my doorway... he was looking for my dogs who were cowering by then in my bedding rolls... LOL  I was cleaning a long rifle at the time but had a second rifle right next to me so I just grabbed it and aimed and to my surprise that ole Lion turned on a dime and fled!!!

I've had many more wildlife encounters ... with Elk, Moose, Deer, a Wolverine once [what a beauty] and all kinds of vermin including a gorgeous pure white Weasel whom I outsmarted by stuffing all the nooks and crannies in my then chicken-coop with steel wool...LOL He was miffed!

Oh yes and Sasquatch-Bigfoot-Yowie-Yeti ... I have had many many encounters with these 'wild' people of the forest ....

Thanks Jewel ... see the baby Bigfoot face sleeping [middle pic of the last 3] ... and the big black-skinned Bigfoot hand close-up [final pic] .... we were about 20 feet from a clan that was sitting in the woods across the road ... thrilling to say the least!

I do believe in Big Foot, Lindi. You're lucky to have seen one. I've never seen a good, clear, close, focused, un fuzzy picture of one.

Lindi..???,do you honestly believe these guys are real,,you got Bigfoot,we got Yowie, another country would have it's own big fella..as for me,i put em up there with Aliens..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<..
    lindilou

LoL All real man!! From one continent to the next they are a well kept secret by various gov's because of laws that would protect them and their habitat... gov's don't really want to preserve forests for much else but future lumber. If you and your wife come out here ever ... I will take ya'all on an easy Sasquatch trek ... no bush-whacking involved!

Well, for what its worth, I believe you and of it. If I can hear ghost, I'm not sensitive, anything is possible. ...

Aboriginals have been in this country for 40,000 years JH,,and it is only the white man that has seen the yowie..and there was no government in the black man days..and thanks for the offer Lindi..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

Ter you have more rock paintings of YOWIE by Aboriginal artists than anywhere in the world! ;)

went up close to a bear in the Smokies. They're " tame " . but, they tell you not to feed them or get out of your car; but I did both.

Got out of my car in Colorado to take a picture of   a steer standing on the road. He lowered his head as if he was getting ready to charge me, so I quickly got back into the car.

Oh, and one time when we were up north on a 2 track looking for a land slide, there was a huge, fat, snake, about 8 ft .long lying across the road. they are not native to Michigan. We couldn't even drive over it. It looked like a big log. so , we got out of the car to look at it, and it crawled away.  it was about 4 in. in diameter.

Eye to eye with a raccoon, one night last winter, while taking out the trash. We were about 10 feet apart. Luckily it didn't attack me. There have been some highly publicized attacks in the New York metropolitan area. The raccoons tested positive for rabies.

I was feeding the raccoons out of my hand in Yosemite National Park back in '79, b/c I didn't know i wasn't supposed to. I later found out they can bite.

10 feet from a big 6 foot Roo,2 feet from a Death Adder, and about 3 feet from an Eastern Brown Snake,,the brown died, the Roo went off with his girlfriends, and i outrun the Adder..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..
