This question was on here way early in the history of akaqa..........about 6 years ago. I don't remember the answer, but I would agree with P.L. - - - to make it stretch farther ? 

     Or, maybe it's so the customer won't say, " Waiter, what is this fly doing in my soup " ?   Ha ha 

     Or maybe to make the customer think it's round noodle  soup or spaghetti Os   :-)

I've link worn mine without a mind for abuse over link the past month or so, and the bezel has yet to show any wear. That said, it's stainless steel, and even with a surface hardening like Dia-Shield, it's going to scratch. For my tastes, while I will hate the first few scratches, once the bezel is well-scratched, I think it will look link amazing, and I hope the black coloring will aid in ample contrast after a few years of use.

The other day my wife was evaluating some investment prospectus watch out Wall Street! and link I made a link joke that if your prospectus isn't filled with graphs that are link trending up and to the right then you're not trying hard enough.
