Horological conservation is relatively new. When I received my master's in horological link conservation there were three of us in the world with that certification my tutor a fellow classmate and myself. The standard practices of any discipline change with time as new technology research link and materials come to light. The field and its practices will continue to improve as long as the hand skills needed to do the link work well are treated with as much care and respect as the objects themselves.
