Well Dud, I think that Brittney Spaniels are pretty smart unless of course, you happen to get "a Dud".

My black lab. He could do addition and when asked if he would rather be a married man or a dead dog, he would flop on his back and hang out his tongue!

My German Shepherd/Lab mix is/was one smart cookie.

My little dachshund, Ernie, was one sharp little guy.  They may not be at the top of the class,  but overall, I'd recommend one without hesitation.
