I've never cooked anything in salt pork and I might have eaten black eyed peas twice in my life (in southern U.S.) and they were just okay to me. I guess I'll have bad luck all year.

I think a lot of people shy away from serving Black Eyed Peas for New Years Day because while growing up many were served Black Eyed Peas from a tin which were tasteless.
