Some dissented link with his link leadership style but for the most part he is remembered as a fine officer with great concern for the welfare of his troops. link At the end of World War II he held the rank of four star general and in 1950 was made General Of The Army a rank in the U.S. not in current use and generally reserved for wartime with the right to wear five stars on his uniform.
