I think of diplomacy as being the ability to mediate two people in a dispute to a compromise. The diplomat doesn't take sides, working equally hard for both sides. An example of diplomacy might be a parent or teacher listening to siblings or students tattle on each other. The effective diplomat (in these cases) may suspect the truth is somewhere between the two stories, but handles the situation so both kids feel vindicated.
