In you lifetime, which national leader in your country do you think has done the best job?

What reason(s) do you have for your "nominee"?   Please be specific; instead of just saying "Foreign Policy", describe a particular foreign policy which you felt was successful for your leader.

""John Howard was the best in my time,,he wore his heart on his sleeve,,and he tried to stay fit by walking regulary,,he is no longer Prime Minister but he still attends sporting games where Australia plays and he just sits in the stands with his wife and everyone else,,he was our longest serving Prime Minister,,He introduced a 10% GST into our country which was a good financial move for Australia,,He introduced APRIA into our banks,,a watchdog over the banks,,which went a long way to saving us from the credit crash that hit most of the world,,He also created a fund that was meant to take the pressure off the tax payer as more and more baby boomers retired..alas that was a plan that went wrong,he was voted out and the labor party squandered the fund..And that is the end of my long winded story,,there are other Australians who do not see him in the light that i do..oh yes he also brought in Gun Control that at the time i did not agree with,,but i can see where it made sense,,even though i handed in my gun...He was also visiting with the American President when 9/11 went down..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

Tom very glad to hear from you,,and yes Tom,when i wrote that post, i truly thought we would be on opposite sides of the fence...glad we found some middle ground mate..Little Johnny Howard Ruled..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<..

I also think JFK was a great president!  I feel this way because I was living then and maybe other presidents did more life changing things but I was not here at that time!

Jimmy Carter (U.S. President for those who don't know). Brokered peace between Egypt and Israel.

    Winston Churchall,

What about Churchill makes you pick him as the best? Wasn't he "before your time"?
Not giving you a bad time, just looking for some thought-out answers.

Do not ask an Aussie what they think of Winston Churchill Hec,,he was not very nice to us in WW2...>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<

We are so blessed here in the states..... I didn't answer this question because I really like Theodore Roosevelt but he was just a little before my time. Incredible man. Thank you for adding to your answer!

We had two , Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.  But the best Prime Minister we should have had was Enoch Powell.

It could've been worse, sunnyB...He could have answered "Cromwell"!

Sorry P, in my lifetime there have been no great leaders in Great Britain, only self serving egotistical politicians, John Smith was a man I greatly admired but unfortunately he died way before his time, my "politics" also deem it almost impossible that a leader of the party I vote for in a general election will ever lead this country, but hey, I'm Scottish, and I think our wee country has a more than adequate leader at the moment, only time will tell though.

    "Patent pending" Dougal.

John F Kennedy, of course. He was everybody's hero at that time. He cast spells over all of us, kids included. When he was killed I cried and cried and cried. I was what? Six years old? And it effected me so. I knew a man who did not like him because of his powerful charisma, he compared Jack to Hitler

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a biggie. Kennedy outmaneuvered Kruschev. and the Russian missiles were removed from Cuba..

I've never seen a blank space where your avatar should be Julie. As I mentioned before, you'll need to give me complete, detailed, step by step information as to what exactly happens when it disappears. Otherwise, I cannot explain it to admin. They've tried to fix it for you, but like me, cannot "see" the problem.

No matter what I choose for an avatar, it will change back to the ugly little face I was given when I signed up. When I refresh it the photo I choose will last anywhere from an hour or a couple of days. I NEVER will choose the cartoon face. So it isn't me thats6doing it.....

Thank YOU. But I've become used to the challenge.....

I appreciate John Kennedy and the Kennedy's in general. Teddy Roosevelt is high on my list. Also the Shriever the man that started the peace corps. I think Martin Luther King was a great leader and inspirer.

    probably Kennedy and Reagan .

    Bob/PKB

because...... finish the answer, please. What made them two of the most admirable leaders, in your estimation?

That's alright Bob ,I will forgive you this time,
