    Oh. :)

We didn't buy any candy this year. Last week we purchased some fruit cookies made with blueberries. Yummy.

I bought two bags of Snickers miniatures and had two kids at the door -- gave them each 2.  My son showed up later with his fiancée, her son, and his son (disguised as Batman) and I gave the kids 1 each, and sent them home with what was in the little candy dish by the door, leaving me with about one full bag and 1/3 of the other

So far, I've eaten NOTHING!!!   Before, though, I had some candy corn in a dish and couldn't keep my hands out of it.....and I don't really like candy corn.

And, now, these are mine!!!!   ALL MINE!!!!!

As a witch with your own coven, is there anything special you do for Halloween? Kids trick or treating or adult alcohol-fueled costume parties not so much....

Yes. Our coven met and we started with a hayride around one of our sisters property. Her husband drove the tractor around their 250 acre land. I sage everyone as they enter the Circle and we call the quarters. Then we had a very solemn ceremony honoring our ancestors as we sat around a huge bonfire outside, each of us taking our turn to speak. It was quite emotional. This is our end of year ritual and it celebrates the third and final harvest of the year. It is called Samhain (pronounced Sow-in) as we follow a Celtic path. Then we went inside and had a wonderful feast.

Wow! Ifor memory serves, Halloween proper has Celt in origins, nothing like what the general public knows.

The origins for Halloween are facinating, but unfortunately most people don't understand them. First, the colors of orange and black are for the colors of the leaves (orange) and for the days becoming shorter and nights becoming longer (black). Black also is representative of us remembering and honoring our ancestors. Jack-O-Lanterns were carved out gourds or pumpkins used to frighten any evil spirits one might encounter. Lights in windows helped ghosts to find their way along on Samhain night. Ghosts appear when the veil between the worlds becomes thin at this time of year. The vision of old ugly witches has its roots in the fact that the Goddess has been transformed at this time of year into her Crone aspect. She has gone from Maiden (Springtime), to Mother (Summer), to Crone (Autumn). The Crone aspect is her time as the older, respected, and wise Woman. Owls and bats are featured at this time of year because they are night creatures and Samhain or Halloween is a night festival. Halloween itself if the modern day version of All Hallows Eve (a Christian holiday). There are many more small things to add here, like ducking for apples and its meaning, but I don't think you want to read a book here.

    Celtic festival of Samhain???
    witchway

Yes, the Celtic Festival of Samhain, the Festival of the Dead, your Halloween. The Wiccan calendar has 8 festivals. It starts with Yule (Dec. 21), Imbolc (Feb. 2), Ostara (March 21), Beltane (May 1), Litha/Midsummer (June 21), Lughnasadh (Aug. 21), Mabon (Sept. 21), Samhain (Oct. 31). This is the Wheel of the Year and it celebrates the four seasons and the two solstices and the two equinoxes.

Very interesting topic! There is so much to learn from others' if we just open our minds and close our mouths! Thank you, witchway!!

You are interesting, the man I care for is wiccan, wears the pintacle around his neck. It means a lot to him but doesn't make him exercise any more than he has to.....
    witchway

Interesting Julie. Wish I could tell you that wearing a Pentacle means you will do what you should, but it doesn't. Just like my family wearing their cross doesn't mean they will do what they should. We are all human and are susceptible to all the frailties that every human has to deal with. Perhaps I could suggest something. Ask him if he believes in the Wiccan Rede, "Do as he will/And harm ye none". Then ask him if he believes that it applies to him also. Hope this helps. Sometimes if a connection with another person exists on a personal level than it can make a huge difference. If you need anymore help, please don't hesitate to ask. In Light and Love.

I’ll try it. I’ll try anything. Bribes of MoonPies isn’t working, strictness helps but I’m tired of yelling at a man older than I…..
