So, you're in a contest, competing for $100,000 PLUS a ton of other great stuff, when you get a call.....

watching Project Runway the other night, which is a fashion design reality competition. The contestants are in NYC, being engaged by Heidi Klum to create new fashions in hours every week. One of the contestants, Jake, age 37, from SF, receives a call that his dog has to be put down.

The dog is basically Jake's best friend, the one he leaned on at the passing of his own parents, and a companion for many years.  Those of you with pets will understand the dilemma. Winning the contest garners him the cash, a cruise for 2 to almost anywhere in the world, a new Lexus something or other, a feature in a top fashion magazine, plus goods and services for shows, and a top of the line sewing center.

Put yourself in Jake's situation (tweak it so you can understand and try not to amuse, as the death of a loved one is seldom fodder for funny) .  WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

THE DILEMNA IS WHETHER JAKE SHOULD STAY ON THE SHOW AND LET SOMEONE ELSE TAKE CARE OF PUTTING DOWN HIS DOG, OR SHOULD HE RESIGN FROM THE SHOW, GO HOME AND TAKE CARE OF HIS DOG HIMSELF?

If I was as close to this dog as much as Jake was I would drop everything and run.If Jakes dog was there for him through the hard times, Jake should be there for him. Jakes loyalty should be to his beloved pet/friend.

I suppose this sounds heartless, but I would opt to stay on the show for a once in a lifetime opportunity. I've lost several pets and it hurt me every time. However, as jh said, I can't change what has happened by quitting my current commitment. It goes without saying, that I would have to work very hard to stay focused while someone else was taking care of things at home.

I'm,not sure if I could carry on,or should I say want to,

He left the contest in favor of his dog. I'd have done the same.

Let  him be put down, cremated, and store him on your dresser wherever you go to……..

Do you stay on the show and let someone take care of that for you, or do you leave the show and take care of your dog yourself?

Though with a heavy heart, I would stay on the show. Nothing I could do would bring him back to me, the show is a once in a lifetime event. I'd hate to even kind of blame my very missed pet for my missed opportunity.

Oh, sure. I trust my luck and fate. And I could spend time with my loved pet (and be glad I was there).....
