How do you stop your zipper from coming down ?

I pull it up and push down on the tab, and isn't that supposed to lock it in place ? I fasten the top with a rubber band looped thru the button hole and looped around the snap- like button. Then, the zipper won't lock into place and keeps coming down. So, I put a safety pin in there and it kinda blocks the zipper's downward passage. Is there a trick to this ?

bullet, I can't take the zipper out b/c I'm not a seamstress, but my mother was.

It's risky securing a zipper if you have to go when you have to go.

I haven't figured it out, either, so wear an extra long top with THOSE pants.

Wee bit of blu tac placed just under zip does the trick.

I either get rid of that piece of clothing or if I absolutely loved the item, I would take it to a seamstress (or even the dry cleaner) and get it fixed. Personally, I can't imagine all the fuss over a zipper that won't stay closed.
