My parents bought their plot and headstone lloonnnggg before they died. It even had their name and birthdate on it. Then , when they die, you simply call the company where they bought it and ask them to put the death date on there. Then they'll tell you they're not coming out untill they have about 6 or 7 of them to do in the same cemetery. They don't like to come out in the winter either. Sometimes you have to wait 6 mos.

Of course, and the stone does take some time. My mother's half was waiting for her date of death. After 4 months, I went to the cemetery office to find out why the date hadn't been added. The numbers were there, and had been, for weeks! The grounds people were "too busy", but while I visited two other family plots for a few minutes, the dates were added to my parents' stone. Remember to advocate for yourself, or, since you'll be dead, assign someone the responsibility ahead of time.
