I must have signed up for Linkedin but have never used it. Yesterday I received an email from Linkedin inviting me to contact various people including someone my wife babysat for about 50 years ago, a neighbour with whom I have fallen out, and long-forgotten acquaintances. None of these have I ever contacted by Linkedin or otherwise so how has this happened?

Yes, I signed up a few years ago. Occasionally, I get asked to add my contacts from my email address book to either join or connect with. I don't bother mixing the two although there is some overlap.
I often get asked to "connect" by workplace competitors. Anyone who would share their client contact list with the competition is asking for trouble.

The same can be said for watches. What used to be a platform for design, notably link in the 1960s and '70s, has become a predictable "luxury" focused machine, made to please the average consumer with absolutely no desire link to step outside of the box. And when they do step outside of said box, I immediately wish they had remained firmly inside of the box because nobody asked link for gargantuan, rainbow-inspired tattoo artist collaboration watches. Sigh.
