    Let's assign some numbers to the P and W.

    Perimeter can equal 36

    Width can equal 8

    2L + 2W = P

    2L + 2(8) = 36

    2L + 16 = 36

    2L + 16 - 16 = 36 -16

    2L = 20

    2L/2 = 20/2

    L = 10

    Confirmation:

    2L + 2W = P

    2(10) + 2(8) = 36

    20 + 16 = 36

     L=(P/2) -W
