    why does my Amazon Kindle Fire plug in socket get so hot?

    I don't think it should get hot.  Are you using an after market charger??  Make sure the input is clean, make sure the connection is secure, no wobbling causing an arc. Heat generated should only be on the transformer. (wall wart)  even then it should only be warm to touch, not hot.
