I tried a few more times and then indeed I pushed too hard lost my grip on the thing and it fell to the floor. Parts scattered across the room. I managed to find everything but the hands. They could have gone into a tiny crack on the floor or the dog could have link walked over one link of them and tracked it outside. At any rate they were both gone. Luckily anticipating such a disaster the DIY Watch link Club had provided extras.
